Searching for an MMO Home: Success

After sampling four different MMORPGs over the last two months, I think I’ve found the game for me: Star Wars The Old Republic. I’ve paid my “mortgage” (subscription fees), and with a lightsaber at my side, I’m ready to move in.

But it wouldn’t be right to move forward without reflecting on each game I sampled. After all, they all have their merits. SWTOR just happens to be right for me.

Searching for an MMO Home: Star Wars The Old Republic

At this point, my search for a new MMO home has become a series on this blog. That should tell you how well the process is going.

So far, I’ve checked out Lord of the Rings Online and, just last week, Champions Online. While both titles are enjoyable, they don’t seem like digital worlds I want to inhabit long-term. I’m looking for a place to sow seeds — y’know, meet a woman, start a family… err, moving on!

Star Wars The Old Republic (SWTOR) is my next MMO home candidate. Last year, I got a hankering for Star Wars and spent a couple of months firmly engrossed by SWTOR. And more recently, watching a Twitch streamer play the game piqued my interest. Which raised the question: Why did I quit SWTOR?

Searching for an MMO Home: Champions Online

In my last post, I discussed how my waning interest in World of Warcraft led me to start playing Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO).

Well, the mercuriality doesn’t end there — and I’m starting to believe mercury retrograde is a thing. Because a week later, I’ve stepped away from LOTRO to play Champions Online, a super-hero-themed MMORPG.

Apparently, my quest to find an MMORPG home is far from over.

Searching for an MMO Home: LOTRO (Legendary Servers)

Over the last few months, I’d been savouring my return to World of Warcraft Classic (WoW). In preparation for Wrath of the Lich King, I brought my Warlock to level cap, made some decent profits in the auction house, and explored Outland’s surreal astral planes. And outside the game, I was diving deep into WoW lore through various Warcraft novels.

But one day, the wave of Warcraft enthusiasm I’d been riding crashed. I didn’t want to log into WoW Classic anymore. I didn’t want anything to do with Warcraft.
